Q: IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY, WHAT ANTIQUE OR COLLECTIBLE WOULD YOU BUY IMMEDIATELY?
A: I would buy a 1967 Thunderbird Convertible 2-seater in red.
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST GORGEOUS ANTIQUE YOU EVER SAW, IN A PRIVATE COLLECTION, OR EVEN A MUSEUM?
A: The jewelry and other items of King Tut; they were simple, but very elegant.
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING STORY YOU KNOW ABOUT ANY OF THE ANTIQUES YOU HAVE EVER HAD, OR EVEN A COMPELLING STORY YOU KNOW ABOUT AN ANTIQUE YOU DON’T OWN?
A: I have a matching desk and chair that are one-of-a-kind with large carved iris flowers all over. The drawer front is one piece with iris carvings for the pull. The upper section has a carved railing and the roll top goes sideways to hide doors and drawers with more carvings. This was made by a well-known (at the time) Japanese wood carver. The name escapes me. It was made for one of the late 1870s or so World Expositions in Europe. I bought it from the estate sale of the first black female doctor in the South. Her family sold a lot of their properties to build the original Baptist Hospital. The estimated value is about $15,000 for the set.
Q: WHAT GENRE OF ANTIQUES DO YOU HAVE AS A COLLECTION? IS THERE A GENRE OF ANTIQUES OR COLLECTIBLES YOU WOULD LIKE TO COLLECT IN THE FUTURE?
A: I have a very large collection of Jasperware by Wedgwood, Adams, Dudson and Sevres and also a large collection of old and unusual ivory pieces.
Q: WHAT ANTIQUE TREND DO YOU LOVE RIGHT NOW
A: "Good" artwork is making a comeback. I have gallery walls all over my home that are covered with paintings and such.
Q: ARE ANTIQUES A GOOD INVESTMENT? WHY OR WHY NOT?
A: Yes. If you buy good quality antiques, you almost always can make a profit after years of enjoying them.
Q: HAVE YOU EVER RECYCLED OR "UPCYCLED" AN ANTIQUE/VINTAGE ITEM?
A: I have a large collection of Jasperware items, and I use some of them to make one-of-a-kind lamps and chandeliers. I have some very nice examples for sale in my booth (B-234) now. The best is a buffet centerpiece and lamp combination.
