The Holidays Arrive

By Karen Parr-Moody

On the heels of its Holiday Open House on Nov. 19, GasLamp Antiques and Decorating Mall and GasLamp Too are full of seasonal items for Christmas. In addition to the always amazing selection of antiques and collectibles, many vendors have decorating their booths with seasonal décor. Here, a glimpse at what is on display:

Just in time for Christmas, here comes a fir tree created with vintage jewelry pieces that give the tree fabulous depth and texture – not to mention, sparkle. Much love, time, thought and study go into such pieces, which have been popular among crafters for decades.

This one-of-a-kind artwork at Booth T-293 at GasLamp Too is housed in a gilt fame and would make a beautiful keepsake to hand down to generations to come. Just imagine this treasure bringing glamour to one’s home each Christmastime. It would make a great gift for a mom, wife or grandmother. (It is priced of $485, but is currently 50 percent off.)

As always, interior designer Jason Parker Counce’s booth is simply teeming with seasonal goodies. There are original Holiday "Folk Art" gingerbread men, peppermint sticks and stars, along with all manner of vintage finds. His one-of-a-kind creations can be used as ornaments to give any Christmas tree some much-needed character ($32 for large gingerbread men; $24 for small gingerbread men; Booth T-309).

This darling mouse, complete with a tartan plaid hat and coat, will look great with any holiday décor – and it would certainly make a child happy on Christmas Day. She wears a knitted scarf and red boots; the buttons on her coat add to the look, which reminds one of Christmases from days gone by ($35, Booth T-324).

Of course, what Christmas would be complete without fabulous, vintage – or vintage style – ornaments? There are a number of both scattered through each of the malls. A bounty of ornaments simply dazzle against the dark green tree in Booth T-271 at GasLamp Too. The shiny fox with a fluffy tail, seen here, currently hangs on the tree; he is inspired by mercury glass ornaments from the mid-19th century ($15).

Christmas pillows make for an inviting holiday home, providing both comfort and cheer throughout the holiday season. The Collected Nest at GasLamp Too, Booth T-703, features many festive designs that are perfect for the season, including the large “Snowflake” pillows for $58.

At the original GasLamp and GasLamp Too, stylish customers know they can shop outside the big box from hundreds of independent antique and vintage collectors when looking for unique items for Christmas decorating.
