The Aesthetic Movement has its nascent roots in the 1860s under the guidance of artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti and designer William Morris. It was dedicated to beauty for beauty's sake. The movement's furniture was influenced by the arts of Japan and featured ebonized wood with gilt highlights.

This Aesthetic Movement vanity from the 19th century is either American or British. Not the gorgeous inlay details, which speak to the underlying currents of the Aesthetic Movement: beauty for beauty’s sake. This piece has top-notch, hand-dovetailed construction and the draws include the original gilt brass pulls (only one is missing). The center base is set with six ceramic glazed tiles. What an unusual piece for a bedroom or office. Located in Booth T-360.
